Lavender oil for hair is well known for its calming, soothing properties, but it is also a popular ingredient in quality hair, skin, and bath products – for a very good reason. It is one of the safest as well as the most versatile essential oils. It has a long list of medicinal and emotional benefits, which supports and enhances its value in fragrance, cosmetics, skin, and hair products.

If you are committed to living well, you may already like to make your own beauty products at home using quality natural ingredients and high-quality essential oils. Including lavender oil in your lotions, creams, shampoos, and conditioners is a great way to get the benefits of lavender without paying high prices.

It is also a way for you to have complete control over your beauty products – a great advantage if you suffer from allergies or sensitive skin.

Some of the benefits of lavender essential oil in beauty products include:

·       It is astringent, helping to reduce oil from skin, hair, and scalp

·       It soothes and calms sensitive or itchy skin

·       It is antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory

·       It is tonifying to the skin

·       The pleasant scent adds a sense of well-being

Taking advantage of these benefits is easy, too.

Add lavender oil to your hair products

To turn your favorite shampoo into an oil-reducing, dandruff-defying, hair-loss preventing, hair-growth stimulant, simply add 5-10 drops of essential oil for every 10ml of shampoo or conditioner and mix well.

For an excellent overnight treatment for itchy scalp, add 10 drops to 30ml (2 Tbsp) of extra virgin organic coconut oil and blend well. Work into your hair right down to the roots and massage into the scalp. Leave on overnight. As a bonus, the scent of lavender will help you drift into a peaceful sleep. Shampoo and rinse in the morning for fresh, shiny, invigorated hair.

Add lavender oil to your skin products

Hydrating facial mist

Make a hydrating lavender and mint facial mist by combining a steeped cup of mint tea (cooled) with two drops lavender essential oil. Mix well and strain into a tinted spray bottle. Mist your face every time you need a refreshing pick-me-up. The mint is cooling to the skin and the lavender is rejuvenating.

Hand and body moisturizer

For a rich hand and body moisturizer, mix 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil in 6-1/2 ounces of base cream, lotion, or carrier oil. Shea butter is an excellent base and it can be blended with sweet almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil or vitamin E oil for a nourishing blend your body will love from head to toe.

Lavender mineral bath

Soaking in an Epsom salts bath is one of the best ways to relieve sore muscles, but adding lavender essential oil takes it to a whole new level, stimulating the skin, boosting circulation, and releasing all the stress from your body and mind.

Simply combine two cups of Epsom salts, ½ a cup of baking soda, and 5-6 drops of lavender essential oil (you can even add some dried lavender flowers to make it look pretty). Mix well and store in a mason jar. Add ½ to one cup to your bath water and soak for 15-20 minutes.
